This is a sampling of relics collected by Harry Ridgeway over the years. This archive record is for educational purposes only. Some of the relics listed may be on display at the Old Court House Civil War Museum, Winchester Virginia, some are no longer owned by the author. None of the items listed in this section are for sale, please refer to the separate sales catalog for items that are currently offered.
All items listed are believed to be authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described. Any excavated relics have been recovered from private property with owners permission. This information is available for research purposes, pictures may be used by permission only.

Button depicts eagle surrounded by 11 stars, "CSA" in shield, large,
very well made English button was intended for high officers of the
Confederacy, the elegant design simply looks like a general's button.
Backmark: "S. ISAACS CAMPBELL & CO / (dot) LONDON (dot) / ST. JAMES ST." dm,
English import, probably made by Smith Kemp Wright. (Isaacs01).
Low convex two part button, well made button for general's frock coat.
Stand up shank intact, beautiful gilded nondug button.

button.
Backmark: blank with a channel, possible product of C Rouyer, New Orleans, LA.

only made in this size, extremely crude Confederate "local" construction.
Shank intact, top grade gilded nondug button, small chip around the rim, loose
shank, button is very poorly made and shanks are loose on most.

Federal general service buttons, however the wings are in the relaxed or
"drooped" position. This two part button could have been intended for
either officers or enlisted soldiers.

lightly brazed and usually works loose.
Stand up shank loose but intact, attractive nondug button, button is rare
to find

Confederate wartime manufacture, eagle facing right, wings in relaxed
position, on lined background. Large rim gives
the impression of a staff button but is two part design. Convex back gives
the impression of "puffback" design.
Button was only made in this small size, likely intended for a hat and may have
been intended for either officer or enlisted.
