Missouri
state seal staff button (22.3mm)
State seal of Missouri, two bears around a shield with
symbols of the state and eagle for Federal government, "UNITED WE STAND,
DIVIDED WE FALL", symbolism was developed in the height of the battle for
statehood and the role of the state versus Federal government. Intended for
officers of Missouri militia units, who generally sided with the North but
served both sides.
Backmark: "SCOVILL MG CO / WATERBURY " dm small letters, inner solid ring,
lettering crowds the rim, ca early 1850's. (ScovillM01)
Three part officer or "staff" coat button.
Stand up shank intact, top grade gilded nondug button.
