All projectiles listed have been disarmed.

Dahlgren smoothbore gun, 11in. Caliber of the gun is 11.0in., (Navy), round projectile diameter should measure 10.87in. approximately, variations will be noted.


Artillery 2011 Ball Dahlgren watercap fuze 11in.
Smoothbore artillery projectile, spherical ball, bursting shell, Navy watercap time fuze, Federal Dahlgren, 11 in.
Ball was manufactured in the Federal arsenals for the Navy for the heavy Dahlgren gun. This was a heavy smoothbore gun designed for the monitor class of Federal river gunships, this was one of two guns mounted in the turret. Projectile is threaded for a Federal Navy watercap fuze, markings, "ORD. D (anchor) / (date)", Jones pg. 10. Projectile measures: diameter 10.9in., weight 125lbs.

A1237...Smoothbore artillery projectile, spherical ball, bursting shell, Navy watercap time fuze, Federal Dahlgren, 11 in., fuze is dated 1862.
Ball was manufactured in the Federal arsenals for the Navy for the heavy Dahlgren gun. This was a heavy smoothbore gun designed for the monitor class of Federal river gunships, this was one of two guns mounted in the turret. Projectile is threaded for a Federal Navy watercap fuze, markings, "ORD. D (anchor) / (date)", Jones pg. 10. Projectile measures: diameter 10.9in., weight 125lbs. Watercap fuze is removable, dated 1862. Projectile is disarmed, removable fuze exposes empty interior. Recovered: Port Hudson, Louisiana.

A2279...Smoothbore artillery projectile, spherical ball, bursting shell, Navy watercap time fuze, Federal Dahlgren, 11 in., fuze is dated 1863.
Ball was manufactured in the Federal arsenals for the Navy for the heavy Dahlgren gun. This was a heavy smoothbore gun designed for the monitor class of Federal river gunships, this was one of two guns mounted in the turret. Projectile is threaded for a Federal Navy watercap fuze, markings, "ORD. D (anchor) / (date)", Jones pg. 10. Projectile measures: diameter 10.9in., weight 125lbs. Original fuze intact, dated 1863. Projectile is disarmed, drill hole through the bottom. Recovered: Mobile Bay, Battle of 1864, by Drew Dredge, July 1966.

Ball was manufactured in the Federal arsenals for the Navy for the heavy Dahlgren gun. This was a heavy smoothbore gun designed for the monitor class of Federal river gunships, this was one of two guns mounted in the turret. Projectile is threaded for a Federal Navy watercap fuze, markings, "ORD. D (anchor) / (date)", Jones pg. 10. Projectile measures: diameter 10.9in., weight 125lbs. Watercap fuze is removable, dated 1861. Projectile is disarmed, removable fuze exposes empty cavity. Recovered: surplus stocks.

A2594...Smoothbore artillery projectile, spherical ball, bursting shell, Navy watercap time fuze, Federal Dahlgren, 11 in., fuze is dated 1862.
Ball was manufactured in the Federal arsenals for the Navy for the heavy Dahlgren gun. This was a heavy smoothbore gun designed for the monitor class of Federal river gunships, this was one of two guns mounted in the turret. Projectile is threaded for a Federal Navy watercap fuze, markings, "ORD. D (anchor) / (date)", Jones pg. 10. Projectile measures: diameter 10.9in., weight 115lbs. Metal surface is soft but stable, smooth appearance, watercap fuze intact with 1862 date. Shell disarmed, drill hole through bottom, not photographed. Recovered: North Carolina defenses.
