|A1926...Seacoast watercap fuze |
Fuze was manufactured in the Federal arsenals for Naval use. The Navy watercap fuze employed a crooked channel so that the flame would travel faster than the water. The fuze consists of an outer cast bushing tapered to be driven into a smooth hole usually used for a wood fuze, the fuze is threaded into the bushing, the watercap mechanism is threaded inside the fuze. Originally covered with a lead pull tab, this was removed before firing. Fuze generally intended for large caliber balls, 8 and 10 inch. Fuze measures: length 2. 8in., head diameter 1.3in., bottom diameter 1in.
