Button was intended for officers, depicting patriotic symbolism of eagle grasping arrows for war and olive branch for peace. Backmark: "LEAVENWORTH & CO / (star) WATERBURY CT (star) /EXTRA SUPERFINE / (star) (star) (star) (star) (star) (star)" dm middle solid ring, two inner rings, ca 1840's, (Leavenworth.400). Three part officer button, coat size.

Die pattern features eagle with short neck facing right surrounded by stars, stripes only in shield with concave top, pointed ears, straight sides, and scalloped bottom with a point, five arrows in right talon, eagle tail is long and fan like.
