This is the "Ridgeway Civil War Research Center", a research tool for educational purposes only, and is provided at no cost to the reader. This is a work in progress, I list items as I get to them, there are many patterns that are not listed yet, this list will be regularly updated as I get pictures and descriptions for more items. I will also correct mistakes, so if you see any please tell me. All items listed are believed to be authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described. Any excavated relics have been recovered from private property with owners permission. This information is available for research purposes, pictures may be used by permission only.

United Confederate Veteran "UCV" staff, "Extra/ Quality" dm, (23mm)
Backmark: "Extra/ Quality" dm This is obviously a post war veteran piece. However it does bear a backmark generally accepted as Civil War period, which means that the manufacturer, probably Scovill, simply used some old stocks of backs when this button was produced in the 1870's. Reference: Albert CS227.

B1804...United Confederate Veteran "UCV" staff (23mm).
Backmark: "Extra/ Quality" dm This is obviously a post war veteran piece. However it does bear a backmark generally accepted as Civil War period, which means that the manufacturer, probably Scovill, simply used some old stocks of backs when this button was produced in the 1870's. Reference: Albert CS227.

Grand Army of the Republic was an important organization formed after the war representing Union veterans. Backmark: "HORSTMANN. PHILADELPHIA. / (star)" dm no rings, manufacture after 1893, (HorstmannMisc01). Three part staff officer style button, coat size, gilded.

Grand Army of the Republic was an important organization formed after the war representing Union veterans. Backmark: "HORSTMANN. PHILADELPHIA. / (star)" dm no rings, manufacture after 1893, (HorstmannMisc01). Three part staff officer style button, coat size, gilded. Nondug button, stand up shank.

United Confederate Veterans was an important organization formed after the war representing Confederate veterans. Backmark: "SCOVILL MF'G CO.WATERBURY. " dm large letters inner ring of dots, manufactured after the Civil War, (ScovillM502). Two part convex button, coat size.

United Confederate Veterans was an important organization formed after the war representing Confederate veterans. Backmark: "SCOVILL MF'G CO.WATERBURY. " dm large letters inner ring of dots, manufactured after the Civil War, (ScovillM502). Two part convex button, coat size. Nondug button, gilded, stand up shank.

National Home Disabled Solders & Veterans button, post war, Steele & Johnson, (15mm).
Button depicts eagle surrounded by "N H D S V". A home was established in Washington, DC to house aging or disable Civil War veterans who could not otherwise provide for themselves. Being former soldiers, they were given uniforms to use on ceremonial occasions. Backmark: "STEELE & JOHNSON / (star) " dm no rings, depressed area for shank, small size only, manufactured after the Civil War, (Steele38). Small size may have been for a hat or sleeve.
