Extra Quality, generic or trademark backmark denoting quality, manufacture by Scovill.


ExtraQualityScovill100, (22mm)
Backmark: "EXTRA / (star) QUALITY (star)" dm, small letters between two rings of dots, solid inner ring, depression around the shank, bottom of "Q" is distinctly seperated from outer ring, used on staff coat size buttons only. Scovill produced ca 1860, (ExtraQualityScovill100). Note that the solid inner ring may be faint or obscured on some examples, this may have ocurrred during the process of shanking or crimping the button.

ExtraQualityScovill110, Gminder overstrike, (22mm).
Backmark: "EXTRA / (star) QUALITY (star)" dm small letters between two rings of dots, backmark is stamped over Gminder 1860 backmark, "JACOB. GMINDER. / (dot) BALTIMORE (dot)", Scovill produced ca 1860, (ExtraQualityScovill110, Gminder overstrike).

ExtraQualityScovill120, (22mm)
Backmark: "EXTRA / (star) QUALITY (star)" dm small letters between two rings of dots, no solid inner ring or depression around the shank, bottom of "Q" is distinctly seperated from outer ring, used on staff coat size buttons only. Scovill produced ca 1860, (ExtraQualityScovill120).

ExtraQualityScovill130, (22mm).
Backmark: "EXTRA / (star) QUALITY. (star)" dm large letters between solid outer ring, and two inner solid rings, bottom of "Q" is distinctly seperated from outer ring, used on staff coat size buttons only. Scovill produced ca 1850's to 1860's, (ExtraQualityScovill130).
Note that the second solid inner ring may be faint or obscured on some examples, this may have ocurrred during the process of shanking or crimping the button.

Backmark: "EXTRA / (star) QUALITY (star)" dm inner solid ring, used for small size staff buttons only, Scovill manufactured ca 1860, (ExtraQualityScovill140).
Note that the second solid inner ring may be faint or obscured on some examples, this may have ocurrred during the process of shanking or crimping the button.

ExtraQualityScovill190, 22mm
Backmark: "EXTRA / (dot) (star) (dot) QUALITY (dot) (star) (dot) " dm single inner ring of dots, depressed shank well can give the impression of an inner solid ring, manufactured by Svcovill ca 1870's, (ExtraQualityScovill190).
