SmithWH100, (20mm to 23mm)
Backmark: "W. H. SMITH & CO / (star) NEW - YORK (star)" rmdc on a stippled field, area around the shank is raised, Scovill manufacture 1840 - 1858, (SmithWH100). Note: some examples with this backmark seem to have a raised area around the shank, this may have been caused during assembly and may not be a variant in the die. Also the dash between "New" and "York" may appear weak on some examples, this is likely debris in the die or wear as it appears to actually be present on all examples.
