This is the "Ridgeway Reference Archive", a research tool for educational purposes only, and is provided at no cost to the reader. This is a work in progress, I list items as I get to them, there are many patterns that are not listed yet, this list will be regularly updated as I get pictures and descriptions for more items. I will also correct mistakes, so if you see any please tell me. All items listed are believed to be authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described. Any excavated relics have been recovered from private property with owners permission. This information is available for research purposes, pictures may be used by permission only.

This die was produced by Steele & Johnson before the war, subcontract for
Horstmann.
Backmark: "HORSTMANN & ALLIEN / (dot) NY (dot)" dm between two solid rings,
inner ring of rays, rays are longer, Steele & Johnson produced ca 1860, (HorstmannA10). Two
part convex button, coat size.

This die variant, (Albert LA3), produced by Scovill before the war, features a
smooth border, and a pelican with slightly thicker wings and a larger nest.
Backmark: "HYDE & GOODRICH / (dot) NEW ORLEANS (dot) " dm,
inner ring of dots, Scovill produced ca 1860, (Hyde04).
Two part convex button, coat size.

This design was
copied from a similar pre-war version. Backmark: "C. BELLENOT. / * N. O. * ", rm letters do not
bear serifs, southern wartime manufacture by C. Bellenot, New Orleans,
(Bellenot01). Two part convex button, coat size, crudely stamped and
assembled southern "local", backmark stamping is usually very weak.

some variance of dimension, depressed well usually around the shank, copper or wire
wire shank was fitted only and not brazed and is usually loose, likely the product of C
Rouyer, New Orleans, (BlankSouthern340).

"local".

This pattern features pelican with side view, on plain field
with pronounced border, button back is convex, or "puffback". Backmark: blank back,
back is convex, "puffback", weak outer channel gives
impression of rings, likely the product of one of the
New Orleans producers, (BlankSouthern301).
