This is the "Ridgeway Reference Archive", a research tool for educational purposes only, and is provided at no cost to the reader.   Some of the relics listed are retained in the author's collection, most reside in other collections and are not owned by the author.  None of the items listed in this section are for sale, please refer to relicman.com sales listings for items offered for sale.  This is a work in progress, I list items as I get to them, there are many patterns that are not listed yet, this list will be regularly updated as I get pictures and descriptions for more items.  I will also correct mistakes, so if you see any please tell me. All  items listed are believed to be authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described.   Any excavated relics have been recovered from private property with owners permission.    This information is available for research purposes, pictures may be used by permission only.

"INDEPENDENT CADETS", rm on a ribbon with laurel branches between ends, inner solid ring, flat one piece button, ca 1830's, overstruck over an earlier R&W Robinson mark, (Independent01).  One piece flat button, coat size.

Button depicts Vermont seal prevalent in the 1850's and 1860's, a stag, intended for Vermont unitsThe shield present in most Vermont state seal buttons was eliminated in this small size version, presumably to better utilize the limited available space.  Backmark: "LAMBERT & MAST / (dot) PHI (dot)" dm, only made in small size., ca 1860's, Lambert was a tailor, Scovill made the buttons, (Lambert02Small).  Two part convex button, hat or sleeve size.

Button depicts Vermont seal prevalent in the 1850's and 1860's, a stag over a shield, intended for Vermont units.  Evidently Vermont did not send inspectors, Scovill used this back left over from buttons produced for a Cuban firm!  Backmark: "PALANZUELOS / (dot) MENENDEZ. Y. CA (dot) " rmdc on stippled background, Scovill produced ca 1850's, (Palanzuelos01)Two part convex button, coat size.

Vermont cadet button, Norwich University, one piece, Robinsons Extra, (18.3mm)
Button depicts eagle with shield, "Cadet" and "N.U" intended for cadets of Norwich University, Norwich Vermont.  This school was established in 1819 as the first northern cadet school to be formed after West Point Backmark:  "ROBINSONS / (dot) (star) (dot) EXTRA (dot) (star) (dot) " rm, between one upper raised ring and two lower, concave back on one piece button, only used for cadet coat or vest size, ca 1830's 1840's, (RobinsonRW25Vest).  One part convex button, "cadet" coat size.
