E M Lewis, Richmond Virginia

E M Lewis started out as a stencil maker in Richmond Va, then sold buttons during the war.  It is not clear if Lewis actually made the buttons or subcontracted them.  In any case, collectors prize the buttons bearing this southern name. 

Most information on this page is from Tice's book, Dating Buttons..., the pictures are generally from buttons that I have handled.
