Button depicts state seal of South Carolina, palmetto tree, intended for troops of South Carolina units. Backmark: "WARRANTED BEST QUALITY / (dot)" dm inner solid ring, maker is probably Scovill, ca 1840's or 1850's, made only on small sized buttons, (Warranted.300). Two part convex button, hat or sleeve size. Dug button, silvered, shank missing. Recovered: not known.
