FP1578     Philadelphia Home Guard, "PHG" boxplate
 
Plate is now determined to be a fake.  This is cast copy of the buckle photographed, O'Donnell & Campbell, Plate 589, which is a buckle.  The face matches exactly picking up several prominent dings and scratches.  It was made into a boxplate, the wire hooks apparently fixed in some manner, the back is parged with a thin solder coating.  The interior of the back was milled leaving what appears to be a rim around the outside.  This is a very clever fake, I do not know yet who made it.
