FP1634     CS two part belt plate, "gothic style CS" or North Carolina Freedom or Death Solid cast

CS is gothic style crudely made buckle with slightly stepped  up tongue,    Clean patina with minor bend   Recovered: not known   Tongue keeper 46.5mm, approx with bend Ref: Mullinax Plate 025 to 027 likely fake.  It is my opinion that this buckle is a fake.

Editor note:  This buckle was submitted for evaluation and rejected.  So is this fake or real, comments and opinions solicited.  Note that the tongue is very close to right, any flaws to distinguish it as a fake are found in the wreath and not the tongue, so if you wonder why there are so many orphan CS tongues of various ilk out there, now you have an idea.  It appears that this was made by Hanover Brass originally.  No doubt they contend it was made as a repro, but if any distinguishing marks are on the wreath and not the tongue, that certainly makes it easier to place these tongues into the fakes market.
