FP1639     CS two part buckle, Virginia style

Two part Virginia style is noted for the straight back, somewhat fat rounded letters, laurel leaf wreath, generally relatively well made probably for officers.   Example is dirt covered, likely a marriage and likely repaired.   Recovered: not known.   Tongue keeper 46.7mm, wreath keeper 46.8mm, wreath height 48.0mm Ref: Mullinax (Expanded Edition) Plate 011 or 012 likely fake     Authenticity is not definite, my judgment is that this piece is more likely to be repro than real.  Patina is attractive, but the brass has been coated to achieve consistent color.  I believe I detect a repair in the neck of the wreath.  The tongue shows significant depression on the back of the bar, which means it is a second or third generation copy.

Editor note:  This buckle was submitted for evaluation and rejected.  So is this fake or real, comments and opinions solicited
