FP1640      CS two part buckle, Virginia style two part

Virginia style is noted for the straight back, somewhat fat rounded letters, laurel leaf wreath, generally relatively well made probably for officers.   Example is dirt covered, likely a marriage.   Recovered: not known   Tongue keeper 46.9mm, wreath keeper 47.0mm, wreath height 48.5mm Ref: Mullinax (Expanded Edition) Plate 011 or 012 likely fake.  Authenticity is not definite, my judgment is that this piece is more likely to be repro than real.  If real it appears to be a marriage, the two halves have very different ground action and color characteristics.  Both halves share the appearance and patina of modern castings and may be wax cast and not sand cast.

Editor note:  This buckle was submitted for evaluation and rejected.  So is this fake or real, comments and opinions solicited
