Cartridge boxes and Cap boxes from the Civil War

All  items listed are guaranteed authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described.   Any excavated relics have been recovered from private property with owners permission.


M0774     Federal Cartridge box, Pattern of 1864 Type II 

   
Cartridge box, pattern July 1864 , the ornamental box plate was replaced by the oval "US" embossed on the flap, Type II (two flaps) Box is marked "S H YOUNG & CO / NEWARK NJ" Nice example, both tins intact, belt loops intact, both flaps, finial, and buckles are all intact, there are holes for a brass boxplate, that may have been a field improvement, this box was not supposed to carry a brass plate. Leather is flexible. 
Box measures 7.2 in. X 1.7 in. X 5.2 in. .58 caliber elongated ball

Cartridge box, pattern July 1864 , the ornamental brass box plate was replaced by the oval "US" embossed on the flap. Type II pattern has inside flap covering the tins, plus second flap covering the front implements pouch. Belt straps are centered, sewn and riveted. Front tab is sewn and riveted with pointed finial. Two iron buckles are sewn and riveted. 
Inspector marks: "F. A. SNIFFEN / US / ORDNANCE / SUB INSPECTOR" and "R. NECE / PHILAD" (Johnson pg. 251) Belt loops intact, fastening tab intact with a break, finial and buckles intact, one tin intract, inside flap is intact, implements pouch is missing, leather is flexible, inexpensive example 
Box measures 7.2 in X 1.7 in X 5.2 in (for .58 cal elongated ball)

Box measures 8.2 in X 1.8 in X 4.8 in (for .69 cal elongated ball)

Belt loops intact, fastening tab intact with small tear, finial and buckles intact, tins intract with some bends, inside flaps are intact, leather is flexible, nice box whole and complete.
