M0790     Sutler token  3 Regiment Ohio Cavalry, 16mm    

The sutlers traveling with the army often made their own script. Disc is inscribed: "JOHN T. METCALF / * / 3R. REG / O. CAV. US. A. /    5 CENTS IN GOODS."   Reverse is plain., copper disk raised letters.
Dug copper disc, inscription is clear and definite.

Patriotic tokens made in the style of copper coins of the period, these expressed patriotic themes or merchant advertisements.

Picket pins were pounded into the ground to secure the horses.

Federal issue canteen was issued to most troops, few survive.  
Canteen is nondug, complete with spout and strap hooks, minor dings only.
