This is the "Ridgeway Reference Archive", a research tool for educational purposes only, and is provided at no cost to the reader.   Some of the relics listed are retained in the author's collection, most reside in other collections and are not owned by the author.  None of the items listed in this section are for sale, please refer to relicman.com sales listings for items offered for sale.  This is a work in progress, I list items as I get to them, there are many patterns that are not listed yet, this list will be regularly updated as I get pictures and descriptions for more items.  I will also correct mistakes, so if you see any please tell me.
All items listed are believed to be original and authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described.
Any excavated relics have been recovered from private property with owners permission.
Any artillery or ordnance relics have been disarmed and rendered safe.
Any weapons are pre 1898 antique weapons, and are exempt from Federal regulation, no licenses or permits are required.

Spur, Model 1859, Federal enlisted, plain style, without groove.
Spur was authorized under the Regulation 1859, and was issued to the enlisted cavalryman, large numbers were used in the 1864 cavalry campaigns.  Spur is sturdy construction, exterior bar is rounded, interior bar is flat without strengthening groove, curved and rounded neck is not adorned, rowel was often removed or damaged from use.

Spur was authorized under the Regulation 1859, and was issued to the enlisted cavalryman, large numbers were used in the 1864 cavalry campaigns.  Spur is sturdy construction, exterior bar is rounded, interior bar is flat without strengthening groove, foliate adornment is cast in around the neck, neck is curved and rounded, rowel was often removed or damaged from use.  The design of the foliate adornment is unusual.

Spur was authorized under the Regulation 1859, and was issued to the officer cavalryman, large numbers were used in the 1864 cavalry campaigns. 
Spur is sturdy construction, exterior bar is rounded, interior bar is flat without strengthening groove, scroll adornment is cast in around the neck, neck is curved, rowel was often removed or damaged from use.

Spur, Model 1859, Federal officer, exterior grooves, patent mark Dec 24, 1861.
Spur was authorized under the Regulation 1859, and was issued to the officer cavalryman, large numbers were used in the 1864 cavalry campaigns. 
Spur is sturdy construction, exterior bar is rounded and is adorned with fancy grooves, interior bar is flat without strengthening groove, neck is rounded and curved, interior has cast in mark, "PATENTED / DEC 24, 1861".

  Nondug spur.  Recovered: from a barn in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia.


Spur, Confederate, curved squared neck, rounded strap hooks.
Spur is Confederate manufacture, sturdy construction, exterior bar is rounded, interior bar is flat without strengthening groove, neck is squared and gently curved, hook for fastening strap is rounded.

Spur, Confederate, squared raking neck, flat sides, rectangle strap hooks with a bevel.
Spur is Confederate manufacture, sturdy construction, exterior bar is flat, interior bar is flat without strengthening groove, neck is squared and straight raking style, hook for fastening strap is rectangle with leading corners milled.
