Currency, North Carolina.

This is the "Ridgeway Reference Archive", a research tool for educational purposes only, and is provided at no cost to the reader.   Some of the relics listed are retained in the author's collection, most reside in other collections and are not owned by the author.  None of the items listed in this section are for sale, please refer to relicman.com sales listings for items offered for sale.  This is a work in progress, I list items as I get to them, there are many patterns that are not listed yet, this list will be regularly updated as I get pictures and descriptions for more items.  I will also correct mistakes, so if you see any please tell me.
All items listed are believed to be original and authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described.
Any excavated relics have been recovered from private property with owners permission.
Any artillery or ordnance relics have been disarmed and rendered safe.
Any weapons are pre 1898 antique weapons, and are exempt from Federal regulation, no licenses or permits are required.

Currency was authorized by the North Carolina state government May 11, 1861, and issued October 1, 1861, "THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA / Will pay to Bearer Two Dollars at the Treasury on or before 1st, Jany 1866 / TWO DOLLARS. / Raleigh / BY AUTHORITY OF LAW. / Receivable in Payment of all Public Dues.".  The note depicts graphic embellishments, but no images, black print, on plain paper, plain back, red overlay "TWO DOLLARS" on back, note is printed on the back side of North Carolina bank notes of various higher denominations, usually $5 and up or bonds, which North Carolina apparently was unable to back and so these were never issued, paper was scarce and recycled for these smaller denominations.  Date is printed, serial number is hand inscribed, signature is hand signed.  Printing: " F. W. BORNEMANN. CHARLESTON, S. C.".

Currency was issued by Greensboro Mutual Life Insurance and Trust company, Greensboro, North Carolina, June 1, 1862., "NORTH CAROLINA / GREENSBORO MUTUAL Life Insurance and Trust company / This is to Certify that (insert name) has Deposited FIFTY CENTS in this Company, payable to him, or Bearer, in current funds, when Certificates to the amount of one or more dollars are presented.
