Confederate oval belt plate, CS, "rope border" style, die stamped, not filled, sheet brass hooks, Confederate wartime manufacture
Buckle depicts "CS" and is an oval belt plate broadly used in the Confederacy. This style is noted for simple letters, the "C" is rounded, the "S" is slightly crooked, thin border around the edge, with an inner border giving the appearance of twisted rope. Plate is stamped on thick sheet brass, scraps of brass were cut into hooks and soldered into place, the plate never was filled.

Plate is stamped on thick sheet brass, scraps of brass were cut into hooks and soldered into place, the plate never was filled. Plate measures 55mm X 87mm. Dug plate, small crack at the bottom, hooks intact. Recovered: Germanna, Virginia, by Lewis Frazer.

Recovered: not known.

Nondug plate, one hooks is broken, buckle would still have been serviceable until second hook breaks.

Plate is stamped on thick sheet brass, scraps of brass were cut into hooks and soldered into place, the plate never was filled. Measurements not obtained. Dug plate, minor cracks & bends, hooks missing as usual.
Found central Tennessee.

Buckle depicts "CS" and is an oval belt plate broadly used in the Confederacy. This style is noted for simple letters, the "C" is rounded, the "S" is slightly crooked, thin border around the edge, with an inner border giving the appearance of twisted rope. Plate is stamped on thick sheet brass, scraps of brass were cut into hooks and soldered into place, the plate never was filled. Plate measures 55mm X 87mm. Dug buckle, bends small crack at five oclock, most of these thin plates are cracked, hooks intact. Recovered: "Boneyard Road" (west of Corinth Mississippi).

Buckle depicts "CS" and is an oval belt plate broadly used in the Confederacy. This style is noted for simple letters, the "C" is rounded, the "S" is slightly crooked, thin border around the edge, with an inner border giving the appearance of twisted rope. Plate is stamped on thick sheet brass, scraps of brass were cut into hooks and soldered into place, the plate never was filled. Plate measures 55mm X 87mm. Dug plate, two hooks missing, this is why this plate was discarded. Recovered: Tennessee campaign.

This style is noted for simple letters, the "C" is rounded, the "S" is slightly crooked, thin border around the edge, with an inner border giving the appearance of twisted rope. Plate is stamped on thick sheet brass, scraps of brass were cut into hooks and soldered into place, the plate never was filled. Plate measures 54mm x 86mm, measurements are approximate for stamped oval plates. Nondug plate, one hooks is broken, buckle would still have been serviceable until second hook breaks.
