Confederate oval belt plate, CS, "regulation" style, die stamped, not filled, sheet brass hooks, Confederate wartime manufacture
Buckle depicts "CS" and is an oval belt plate broadly used in the Confederacy. This style is noted for simple letters, the "C" is rounded, the "S" is relatively symmetrical with smaller opening behind the serif, thin border around the edge. Plate is stamped on thick sheet brass, scraps of brass were cut into hooks and soldered into place, the plate never was filled.

This style is noted for simple letters, the "C" is rounded, the "S" is relatively symmetrical with smaller opening behind the serif, thin border around the edge. Plate is stamped on thick sheet brass, scraps of brass were cut into hooks and soldered into place, the plate never was filled. Plate measures 54.5mm X 88mm. Dug plate, minor crack at about 3:00, many of these plates are found with small cracks, this one is whole and intact, all hooks intact. Found Shelbyville, Tennessee.
