Weapons of the Civil War
All weapons listed on this webpage are strictly manufactured before 1898, and are considered unsafe for actual use. These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever! Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment are real good things to have
All items listed are believed to be authentic to the Civil War or as otherwise described.
W0786
Model 1840 cavalry saber, Weyersberg
The model 1840 saber was a relatively heavy cavalry saber and was
called the "wrist breaker". Steel blade has flat back with
narrow and wide fuller stopped at the ricasso. Brass hilt has three
branches. Brass pommel cap and guard are unadorned. Handle is wood
with a slight curve, covered with leather and a wire grip. Iron scabbard
with iron mountings, throat is secured by rivets and is European origin.
Marks: Ricasso is stamped with a rooster head. Sword is
European manufactured, absence of Federal inspection marks means that it was
likely sold to a state or local militia unit (north or south).
Manufactured by Gebruder Weyersberg, Solingen Prussia, sabers from this maker
are rare.
The grip has leather wrap and wire intact, leather washer intact, handle is
intact but loose with a wiggle, clean blade, scabbard intact with light
rust, representative example of a seldom seen sword.
Blade length 36 inches
