Plate1479-Federal-Sword-622-FAKE-FANTASY-REPRODUCTION
Federal Sword Waist plate, FAKE, FANTASY, or REPRODUCTION
ODonnell illustration 622. Original of this pattern had applied wreath. Hanover Brass produces this plate with applied wreath and cast in wreath. The applied wreath used in the repro is slightly different from the original wreath. The copy with solid cast wreath is copied off the repro wreath, and so it too will differ from the original wreath.

P2780 ### Hanover Brass repro: Federal sword plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # ESBP17 Plate 622 1861-1863 Eagle Officers Sword Belt Plate 50 x 83mm (Reproduction size) GW stamped under the hook. Has applied nickle silver wreath above and below wings. Same as other plates, the tip of the wreath above the wing is not correct. The raised mark on the center back of plate is called a chill. It is used to cool the metal at the thick part of the casting so you get a clear detailed shield. They placed a metal object in the mold that cooled the metal when it touched this metal.
