P2794 ### Hanover Brass repro: Militia Two Piece Belt Plate. This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation: Photo # EM2 Plate 329 (1845-1860 Militia Two Piece Belt Plate) 52 x 88mm. Stamped GW. Original is in the Charles Burnette collection and still there. This is a buckle that is faked often. If you look at the back of the tongue my reproduction has the gate marks showing where the metal fills the buckle. The original has a space between the end of the center piece and the bar. Also, it is a well made buckle with very little file marks. Size is very important. Research Center: Plate2269-Militia-TwoPart-329-FAKE-FANTASY-REPRODUCTION . Photo # EM2 civilwarfakes com |
