P2823 ### Hanover Brass repro: Alabama Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSAL1 Plate 213 (Alabama Two Piece Belt Plate) 47 x 87mm. Marked GW inside the center piece. The original of this was a Confederate Foundry copy of a pre-war plate. It is a very crude casting and a lot of the detail is not there. My reproduction is very close to the original and I see this plate faked often. Look at the flaw in the map. It sinks in and you can use this and many other casting flaws for your reference. Remember that my reproductions is 2 or more mm's smaller and all will have the same flaws. There is a sand flaw on the right side, center of the disc.

F1007 Alabama 2-Piece Belt Buckle manufactured by Hanover Brass This reproduction Alabama plate was cast from an original. The original was a Confederate copy of a pre-war Alabama state militia 2- piece, this is why it is a crude casting since the Conferate makers, in their haste, lost much of the finer details of the original pre-war buckle. Still a desirable buckle with it's crude Confederate look. A beautiful belt plate. Cast in yellow brass. .
