Alabama-FAKE-FANTASY-REPRODUCTION
Alabama two part plate, Mullinax illustration 214. The example shown in Mullinax book was owned by Walt Lineberger at the time. It is now known to be a fantast, this plate was recalled by Shannon Pritchard and shown to experts, Shannon says he destroyed it. So the only picture surviving may be the picture in Mullinacx book. Long after Mullinax book was published, Gary Williams explained how he made this pattern out of cardboard, and brags about how he fooled Mullinax into listing this in his book as a rarity 10. This is typical of the deceit practiced by Gary Williams over and over again.

P2824 ### Hanover Brass repro: Alabama Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSAL2 Plate 214 (Alabama Two Piece Belt Plate) Fantasy. This plate, pictured in Mullinax's book, never was and never will be Civil War. In the 1960's before I copied an original for a pattern, I made this tongue from glue for the mountains and tree and the map is cut from a post war button. The one pictured in the book is another foundry casting using my copy for his pattern. I add a little more detail to my disc and did not hollow out the bar on the back of the tongue. The map will fit a Alabama coat button perfect. I told them this story but it is in his book as a rarity 10 .

Photo # CSAL3 Plate-Fantasy (Alabama Two Piece Belt Plate) 47 x 87mm. Marked GW. This was the very first Alabama two piece that I created. I used glue to make the mountains and tree and cardboard to make the map. This is the plate that I later cut the map out of the Alabama coat button and replaced the cardboard map. I also put a little more detail to the disc. This was done in the 1960's. I still cast both of the plates. I used a Virginia wreath.

A further note, we now believe this was produced by Gary Williams, aged and altered by Jeff Girardy under, Gary Williams supervision, and sold on ebay by a third party. The piece got thoroughly ridiculed by the Northern Virginia relic hunter forum at the time. The Bristol marketers have been prosecuted, Girardy has made a half assed attempt to come clean, Gary williams eventually disclosed his shennanigans through civil war fakes, but long after the damage was done. Shame on you Gary Williams.
