California, two part waist belt plate.

Plate3221-California-v11
California rectangle belt plate, state seal Minerva with Eureka , sheet brass with applied motif hand stamped
Plate depicts Minerva with symbols of mining and agriculture, with Eureka intended for California use. Buckle is hand made, not machine stamped, and was likely made for the gold mining trade and may or may not be military. Plate is made of sheet brass, the state seal has been hammered out of sheet brass,, then applied and appears to be soldered and secured with a wire through the plate, hook bar and tongue are soldered, it is a hand made buckle and not machine stamped, construction methods likely date the buckle to the 1850's.
