P2842 ### Hanover Brass repro: Georgia Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSGA1Plate 232 (1861-1865 Georgia Two Piece Belt Plate.) 48 x 80/wreath ht. 49mm. Marked GW on the inside of the wreath and on the back of the disc. From the John Bracken collection. This is a very close copy of the original and you should study this plate. The original is a war time casting and most are very crude. The original Georgia two piece of this crude type come in all mm's. They were hand finished and will vary in size. My reproduction has a sand flaw at the front of the disc. You can see where the molder pushed sand into the face causing a raised flaw close to the border on the cast tongue. Also I cut the inside of the wreath out, top and bottom, where the tongue sets. The original wreath was straight across where my reproduction has a little U shape. This is a very good flaw to use for your reference.

P2843 ### Hanover Brass repro: Georgia Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSGA2 Plate 230 (1855-1865 Georgia Two Piece Belt Plate) 50 x 86/wreath ht.51mm. Marked GW. Original is in the Virginia Historical Society collection. This belt plate should not be a problem. My reproduction tongue is cast solid brass and the original tongue disc was die stamped and applied. A good flaw on the tongue is a dent in the disc. This will be in all my reproductions of this Georgia two piece. There are other casting flaws that you can use for your reference.
