P2865 ### Hanover Brass repro: Mississippi Sword Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSMS1 Plate 308 (1860-1861 Mississippi Sword Belt Plate.) 50 x 87mm. Marked GW. Number 509 stamped in the back. From the John Bracken collection. This Mississippi reproduction is smaller than the original and the 509 stamped in the back has sand texture in the no.'s. These bench numbers were stamped in and there should be no sand texture in the numbers. There should be no sand texture on the back but a clean smooth back. Also, the hook is applied not cast. The base of the hook should be very wide. My reproduction hook is cast with the plate. This reproduction has casting flaws that you can use as a reference.
