P2884 ### Hanover Brass repro: North Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSNC9 Plate 332 (North Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.) 50 x 88/wreath ht. 53mm. Marked GW. Original from the Shannon Pritchard collection. I have cast a few center discs and applied them to the tongue bar for customers. It should not be a faking problem because I destroy most of the detail in the back of the center disc. The original stamped disc is very clear and as you know, stamped on both sides. Use the disc as your reference.

P2880 ### Hanover Brass repro: North Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSNC5 Plate 332 ( 1860-1861 North Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.) 51 x 89/wreath ht.54mm. Marked GW inside the original makers mark James S. Smith & Sons New York. The original had a die stamped center disc and applied to the bar. My reproduction is solid cast brass. You should not have a problem with this belt plate. It would be hard to file the GW out of the center of James S. Smith without making it easy to see where it was filed off.
