P3293 ### North Carolina two-part Belt Buckle Savage special
F1293 North Carolina 2-Piece Belt Buckle Editor note: This was taken from a webpage, savage station.com. This seller, Ric Savage, his real name is Frank Huguelet, says he withdrew it from his webpage and returned it to its source. However he will not disclose who made it or where he got it, yet he had more than one of these plates that he attempted to market. At this point I do not know who made this buckle. Hanover Brass denies being the maker and it is not shown on civilwarfakes.com. It is highly doubtful that this piece can be shown to be authentic.

P2877 ### Hanover Brass repro: North Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSNC2 Plate 335 (1861-1865 North Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.) 47 x 86/wreath ht. 48mm. Hand finished so size will vary. Marked GW. Original is in the John McAden collection. This is a very close copy of the original. Use the line on the tongue belt bar loop as a good reference. Study this reproduction and find casting flaws that you can use as your reference. This is a very rare plate.

P2879 ### Hanover Brass repro: North Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSNC4 Plate Fantasy (North Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.) FANTASY Marked GW. This master pattern N C was made by me in the late 1960's. I have seen it faked often and also it has been on Civil War magazine covers. I took the CS two piece and filed the CS letters off. I applied with silver solder a cut out N C. First I marked the disc of the tongue with shallow cut marks before I applied the letters. It is very easy to tell this belt plate. The letters are all shaped wrong compared to the original Civil War NC tongue. This plate has been around a long time and I have seen it with authenticity letters saying it is 100% correct. This should get the records straight and stop the faking of this NC pattern. I now have copies of an original but still cast this pattern for sale.

Photo # CSNC6 Plate 336 (1861-1865 North Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.) 45 x 84/wreath ht.46mm. Marked GW under the tongue disc. This is a very close copy and you need to use the casting flaws for your reference. The original master pattern for this belt plate was a CS two piece turned into a NC. This is one you need to study.
