P2888 ### Hanover Brass repro: South Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSSC1 Plate 353 (1855-1865 South Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.) 52 x 87/wreath ht.51mm. Marked GW/HBF. In the photo, I highlight this in gray so you can see where where the file marks will be if the GW is taken off. This reproduction should not be a problem because the original had a die stamped center disc and my reproduction has a solid cast tongue.

P2890 ### Hanover Brass repro: South Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSSC3 Plate 371 (1855-1865 South Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.) 44 x 92mm. Marked GW on the tongue and also inside the wreath where the tongue fits. Original from the Shannon Pritchard collection. I cast the reproduction in nickel silver and it is very close to the original. 2 mm's smaller but has all the detail and looks like the original. It is well stamped with GW several times on both the tongue and wreath. I have seen this South Carolina faked. Study the photo and find a casting flaw that you can use as a reference.

P2891 ### Hanover Brass repro: South Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSSC4 Plate 367 (1860-1865 South Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.) 49 x 87/wreath ht.53mm. Original from the Virginia Historical Society collection. The reproduction of this South Carolina should not be a problem. The original had a die stamped center disc and my reproduction is cast solid. Look for casting flaws to also help as your reference with the wreath.

P2893 ### Hanover Brass repro: South Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSSC6 Plate 362 (1850-1861 South Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.) 49 x 84/wreath ht.48mm. Marked GW inside the wreath where the tongue goes. My wife Teresa Williams dug the original of this belt plate. The original had a heavy gold plate and a die stamped center disc. The reproduction is cast solid brass. Both belt loops were bent outward and I made them straight on the master pattern. You should not have a problem with this South Carolina.

P2894 ### Hanover Brass repro: South Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSSC7 Plate 367 (South Carolina Two Piece Belt Plate.) 48 x 87/wreath ht.52mm. Marked GW. Original is in the Virginia Historical Society collection. Sometimes the customer wants the center disc to be applied just as the original. This belt plate should not be a problem because I destroy the detail on the back of the disc before I apply it. The original has a thin die stamped disc applied to the bar and my disc is nothing like the original from the back view. I cast most of this belt plate solid brass tongue but make a few at the customers request.
