P2898 ### Hanover Brass repro: Texas Two Piece Belt Plate. This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation: Photo # CSTX1 KERKSIS Figure 371. (1861-1865 Texas Two Piece Belt Plate.) 49 x 81mm. Marked GW. From the Virginia Historical Society collection. If you look at the back of the tongue you will see an Eagle. The front Eagle emblem was taken off and replaced with a star. This is a crude Confederate casting. Find a casting flaw and use it for your reference. I don't think this belt plate should be a problem because it is rare and very easy to note the difference in the front and back of the tongue.
