Confederate, two part plate, FAKE-FANTASY-REPRODUCTION
Confederate two part plate, CS, style with ball serif, Mullinax illustration 014. After publication of the Mullinax book, Gary Williams proclaimed that he had made the example shown as Plate 014. At the time this was thought to be part of his effort to discredit Mullinax, but this does appear to be true, a rare case of Gary williams telling the truth!

P2644 ### Hanover Brass repro: CS two part, Balls Serifs.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CS2P8 Plate 014 (Balls Sherifs) CS Two Piece Belt Plate 48 x 83/wreath ht.83mm. GW stamped in back of tongue. The original of this CS was found in downtown New York City by a friend doing construction work. I bought it and it was in my Williamsburg museum for sixteen years. Nick Harris took it away when it left. I believe it to be Officers. This is one that has flaws and can be picked out pretty easy. Study the buckle.
