P2656 ### Hanover Brass repro: CS two part, Leech & Rigdon.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CS2P20 Plate 047(variant) (Leech & Rigdon) CS Two Piece Belt Plate 46 x 83/wreath ht.46mm. GW always marks the back. Originals of this plate are dug from Army of Tennessee sites. Crude casting but most all Leech & Rigdon castings are crude. You need to pick out a casting flaw and use it for your reference. The variant copy is much better worked than the Plate 047. Both are the same type, just different finish.
