Plate7199-Confederate-TwoPart-996-FAKE-FANTASY-REPRODUCTION Confederate, two part plate, FAKE-FANTASY-REPRODUCTION Confederate two part plate, CS two part buckle, John Turner special Turner, with Gary Williams help, have fitted varous tongues with a wreath that is probably a fantasy. For years Turner was marketing these plates, all unlisted, various patterns, all with this same wreath. The wreath is probably a fantasy cobbled together from something else, really cannot place this wreath on any real buckles. Note warnings from Gary Williams. The plates that Turner had were all nicely aged. About all you could say about them is that they were unlisted and different! This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. (one of a kind) CS Two Piece Belt Plate. 51 x 79mm. Original from the John Turner collection. This is what the Confederate foundries did when it came to making a buckle set work. They took the Culpeper tongue and made it fit a coin style wreath. The original was dug in Tennessee. Another belt plate that should not be a fake problem but if it is, check out the casting flaws.
