P2611 ### Hanover Brass repro: CSA Sword Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSGP1Plate 119 CSA Sword Belt Plate. 49 x 82mm. Stamped GW in the back. Original is in the Virginia Historical Society collection. This is a very rare sword belt plate. I do not think this would be faked but maybe. Check out the casting flaws. Notice where I rubbed out the bench no. in the sand mold on the keeper.

Photo # CSGP4 Figure 55 (Howard Crouch Repo Book.) CSA Sword Belt Plate. GW stamped in the back. 47 x 81mm. This belt plate is not Civil War period. You see them at shows as original but probably date around early 1900's. It is cast from the 1872 Hagner plate.

P2632 ### Hanover Brass repro: CS Sword Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSGP23 Plate (FANTASY) CS Sword Belt Plate. 42 x 65mm. GW marked in the back. I cast this CS plate in the 1960's before I copied the original that's in the Virginia Historical Society. I still cast and sell this plate because it is a very good seller. John, who lives in Wilmington, N.C. and maker of the Double Eagle metal detector use to cast buckles in the 1960's and gave me this pattern. There never was an original like this but a fantasy made up by John. This plate should not be a problem.

P2633 ### Hanover Brass repro: CSA Sword Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSGP24 Plate (FANTASY) CSA Sword Belt Plate 47 x 82mm. Marked GW. This CSA sword belt plate was made up by Gary Williams in 1969. I copied the plate 119 in the Virginia Historical Society in 1981. This plate was made up to look like that plate. I have cast many of this plate and still cast it today. It still sells just as good as the copy of the original. You should not have a problem with this plate but if you do there are many flaws to use as your reference.
