Confederate frame, FAKE-FANTASY-REPRODUCTION
Confederate, frame waist belt plate, standard style, Mullinax illustrations 173. Frame buckles are difficult to authenticate, Sizes vary significantly because many different sizes were made, and the finishing of the long edges can cause measurement to vary considerably one end to the other. Reliablity of source matters, but this is soft evidence at best. So frame plates shown in this section have been questioned , but these questions are just opinions, are seldom unanamous, and so authenticty is not certain. You take a look and see what you think.

P2604 ### Hanover Brass repro: Frame Belt Plate.
This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation:
Photo # CSGP28 Plate 173 (Standard) Frame Belt Plate. 63 x 72mm. GW stamped in the back. As will all other frames, this plate is 2 mm smaller than the original but there are other plates of the same type that are smaller than this plate. You will need to pick out flaws and use them to spot the fakes. This is one of my best selling frames and they all look the same.

P3134 ###
F1134 Confederate standard frame buckle  This is a very nice example of a dug Confederate Frame style buckle. It has no ground distortion, a pleasant mottled green patina, no ground action, shows distinct file marks and is typical of what most Confederate soldiers used. This buckle was recovered from the Fredericksburg area, and is pretty much the exact style shown as Figure 281, page 178 of Keim's book on Confederate General Service Belt Plates. This one measures 62mm by 69mm. No reserve on this so it is going. Need to pay some school tuition. Here is an opportunity to obtain a genuine piece of Civil War Confederate history from an area of Virginia that saw a lot of that history. Buyer pays shipping cost of $4.50. The pictures pretty much tell the story. Thanks for lookingSource ebay auction by cracktick 6/30/06 Very Nice Dug CS Frame Buckle, Fredericksburg, NR Item number: 320000778809 Editor note: This seller sells on ebay auction under Private Auction . It is highly doubtful this piece can be shown to be authentic.Plates 175 to 183 tongued framesThe original buckle was crude sand cast, often not square, and is easy to fake.
