Plate7499-Confederate-Frame-175-FAKE-FANTASY-REPRODUCTION Confederate frame, FAKE-FANTASY-REPRODUCTION Confederate, frame waist belt plate, forked tongue style, Mullinax illustrations 175 to 179.Frame buckles are difficult to authenticate, Sizes vary significantly because many different sizes were made, and the finishing of the long edges can cause measurement to vary considerably one end to the other. Reliablity of source matters, but this is soft evidence at best. So frame plates shown in this section have been questioned , but these questions are just opinions, are seldom unanamous, and so authenticty is not certain. You take a look and see what you think. P3454 ### F1454 Confederate frame buckle, Fork tongue style, manufactured by Hanover Brass Buckle measures 94mm X 63mmBuckle was bought from a sutler, sold as a repro. This is very old Hanover Brass production obviously this sutler had some slow moving stock. You have to go back a ways to find plates that Hanover Brass so distinctly marked . Apparently they have found that it is much easier to sell these fakes if there are no marks or the marks are weak and easily removed or obscured. P2600 ### Hanover Brass repro: Forked Tongue Belt Plate. This is an example of Hanover Brass commercial grade reproduction, the plate has been produced in quantity, sold to the living history market, and is generally readily available. The product has also been used as feedstock for fakes, with chemical aging and other alterations. Gary Williams has provided the following pictures and explanation: Photo # CSGPFT1 Plate 176 (Small Forked Tongue Belt Plate) 56 x 69 mm. Size may vary on this reproduction because the belt plate is hand filed. Marked GW. The forked tongue is made wider than the original forked tongue so this is the best flaw to use. A little sand blaster will give this reproduction a very different look. Research Center: Plate7499-Confederate-Frame-175-FAKE-FANTASY-REPRODUCTION . Photo # CSGPFT1 civilwarfakes com |
