Smoothbore flintlock musket, Model 1816, A Waters, 1835, .69cal. . The Model 1816 was designed as a flintlock muzzleloader, .69cal. smoothbore, manufactured from 1816 through 1840. Most were converted to percussion in the 1850's, this was not converted. Manufactured by A. Waters, Millbury Massachusetts. Marks: Lock is marked in front of hammer, US / A WATERS, behind the hammer MILLBURY / 1835, barrel tang is marked 1830, barrel is marked V / P and eagle head. Model features: Rounded hammer versus the flat hammers of earlier models, lockplate is flat with a bevel the rear is rounded replacing the teat of earlier models, flashpan is brass and detachable secured with the frizzen by two screws, iron buttplate is straight against the shoulder, iron strap opposite the lock, iron trigger guard, no rear sight, two iron barrel bands, two strap hooks with button or cylindrical swivel, large iron nose guard serves as third band and forward sight, bayonet lug on top of barrel at muzzle, steel ramrod is button head and threaded.
