W1306 ### Breechloader, Gwyn & Campbell single shot percussion carbine, .52cal. (sn# 4453) . Gwyn and Campbell carbine utilized a paper cartridge bullet, presumably Sharps or any of the other .52 cal. rounds. Manufactured by Edward Gwyn and Albert C Campbell, Hamilton, Ohio, who was successor to Cosmopolitan. Mark on lock, GWYN & CAMPBELL / PATENT / 1862 / HAMILTON. O.. Mark on frame, UNION / RIFLE. Serial number appears twice underneath, on the receiver and the lever. Cartouches on wood on left side indicate government inspection, additional inspector marks, on the barrel. Standard features include: iron buttplate, hammer is flat and long with a bevel, iron loading lever serves as a trigger guard, no wood or bands forward of the receiver, percussion nipple, hinged sight, saddle bar and riding ring on left side, rifling with three lands and grooves, round barrel with octagon section at the breech. Carbine utilized a paper cartridge bullet, presumably Sharps or any of the other .52 cal. rounds. Research Center: Weapon2180-Breechloader-Gwyn-Campbell-Carbine . Reference: Flayderman 9B-059. These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever! Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment should be applied.
