Breechloader, Joslyn single shot rimfire carbine, Model 1862, brass furniture, latch with hook tab, .52cal. . Joslyn carbine was a single shot rim fire carbine and was developed in parallel with the Spencer, both employed the same .52 caliber metal cartridge. The Joslyn was loaded by pivoting the breech block on a hinge, secured by a friction latch with a hook tab on the 1862 model, later production employed a spring pull latch, Manufactured by Joslyn Fire Arms Co., Stonington, Connecticut. Mark on lock: JOSLYN FIRE ARMS CO. / STONINGTON / CONN. Breech door is marked B. F. JOSLYN'S PATENT / OCTOBER 8TH 1861 / JUNE 24TH 1862, and serial number. Cartouche on the wood on the left side indicate government inspection, additional inspector marks on sight and trigger guard. Standard features include: brass contoured butt plate, brass trigger guard, single brass barrel band, two leaf hinged sight, saddle bar and riding ring on left side, six lands & grooves.
