Single shot smoothbore percussion pistol, Model 1842, H Aston, 1851 .54 cal, . The Model 1842 pistol follows a similar design features and time frame as the Model 1842 musket Manufactured by Henry Aston, Middletown Connecticut. Marks: Lock is marked MIDDtn / CONN / 1851 behind the hammer, US / H ASTON & CO forward of the hammer. Two cartouches in wood opposite the lock, additional inspector marks on barrel US / WW / P and JH, N on the trigger guard and backstrap The pistol is .54 caliber, brass backstrap, brass trigger guard, brass band has an extension joining the lockplate, ramrod is swivel type with button head and never detaches from the weapon. These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever! Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment should be applied.
