Colt, Model 1860 Army revolver was a percussion fired six shooter, .44 caliber. Revolver was manufactured by Colt Firearms, Hartford Connecticut. Marks: Top of barrel is marked - ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW - YORK U. S. AMERICA -. Left frame is marked COLTS / PATENT. Cylinder is marked COLTS PATENT No. (serial number) / PAT. SEPT 10TH 1850, and a Naval scene with ENGAGED 16 MAY 1843, scene is usually very weak. Additional inspector mark may appears on the trigger guard, and other parts. Serial number appears seven times, underneath on both sections of frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, wedge, and inside on cylinder pin. Standard design employed round barrel, creeping style loading lever, barrel and cylinder held in place and easily removed for loading by releasing removable wedge, four screws, rounded cylinder with notches, brass trigger guard, iron back strap with notch for engaging shoulder stock, walnut grips. The fourth screw was raised if intended to engage a shoulder stock yoke. Round barrel length 8in.

Additional Inspector mark appears on the trigger guard, and others. Holster shows wear but is fully intact, bottom is open, brass finial is intact. Letter from Colt Industries Nov 23, 1973 stating that SN 6995 was shipped July 12, 1861 to New York Arsenal.

Additional Inspector mark appears on the trigger guard, and others. Inspector cartouche is strong, Holster is intact and believed to be original and early type. The revolver and holster came out of the estate of a Senator from Pennsylvania from early 1900's, the Senator did not fight in the Civil War, unfortunately no information was passed down as to how the Senator got this piece, this is early war manufacture, 1861, and appears to be in as issued condition.

Trigger guard is marked 44 CAL and inspector catouche 2, early issue.The sword belt is complete with Regulation 1851 sword plate, keeper, brass hanger, brass adjuster and brass connector, the whole thing! The buckle is nice example of a crudely cast pattern, keeper fits exactly.The holster is intact, bottom is open, brass finial intact, rivets intact and the stitching has failed on the inside seam.However the leather is intact and it could be re-stitched if desired.  Revolver mechanics fully functional, pleasing patina, marks are crisp.A homemade hook has been installed on the bottom of the guard, this is frequently seen and could be removed but is period. Recovered: as found in an attic in Ludlow Kentucky
