Six shot percussion revolver, Remington Model 1861 Navy, barrel threads exposed, .36 cal. . Remington, Model 1861, old model, Navy revolver was a percussion fired six shooter, .36 caliber. Revolver was manufactured by Remington Arms, Ilion, New York. Marks: Barrel is marked: PATENTED DEC. 17 1861 / MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS' ILION, N Y. Serial number under the barrel. Cartouche on the left grip indicates government inspection, additional inspector marks on barrel and frame, and on the brass trigger guard. Standard features included octagon barrel, barrel threads are exposed (later production), round cylinder with safety notches, loading lever has long hinge, notch on top of the loading leader allowing the cylinder to be removed easily was removed in this model (later production), iron backstrap is integral with frame, walnut grips, brass trigger guard. These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever! Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment should be applied.
