Five shot percussion revolver, J M Cooper, First Model, .36 cal. . J M Cooper Navy revolver is a percussion fired five shooter, .36 caliber. Revolver was manufactured by J M Cooper & Co Philadelphia Pennsylvania, approximately 400 were manufactured in 1864. Marks: Top of barrel is marked COOPER FIRE ARMS MFG. CO. FRANKFORT PHILA PA / PAT. JAN. 7, 1851 APR. 25, 1854 SEP. 4 1860 / SEP. 1, 1863 SEP. 22, 1863. Serial number, appears once, underneath on the backstrap. Standard design employed an octagon barrel, barrel and cylinder held in place and easily removed for loading by releasing removable wedge, three screws, rounded cylinder with notches, cylinder is long and was not rebated, rounded brass trigger guard, brass back strap, walnut grips. These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever! Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment should be applied.
