W1201 ### Five shot percussion revolver, Manhattan, Series IV, .36 cal. (sn# 62682) . Manhattan revolver is very similar to the Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver, is a percussion fired five shooter, .36 caliber. Revolver was manufactured by Manhattan Firearms Co., Newark New Jersey, approximately 78,000 were manufactured from 1859 to 1868, series IV is numbered approximately 45,200 to 69,200. Marks: Top of barrel is marked MANHATTAN ARMS CO NEWARK NJ / PATENTED MARCH 8, 1864. Cylinder is marked: PATENTED DEC 27, 1859 and artwork. Matching serial number, appears four times, underneath on both sections of frame, trigger guard, backstrap. Standard design employed an octagon barrel, barrel and cylinder held in place and easily removed for loading by releasing removable wedge, three screws, rounded cylinder with notches, rounded brass trigger guard, brass back strap, walnut grips.
