W1039 ### Five shot percussion revolver, Massachusetts Arms, Adams patent, Navy model, .36 cal. (sn# 224) . Massachusetts Arms, Adams patent, Navy model, .36 cal. This well made revolver was manufactured before the war, made in America but used English patents. Manufactured by Massachusetts Arms, Co., Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, many of them were bought by units of the pre-war Virginia militia, only 1,000 were manufactured. Revolver is double action, 5 shot revolver, barrel is octagon, grips are walnut finished with fancy carving, it was a highly sophisticated revolver for the period.. Revolver was manufactured Massachusetts Arms, Co., Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Marks: Marks on topstrap, MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS. Marks on left frame, ADAM'S PATENT / MAY 3, 1858, and right frame, PATENT, / JUNE 3, 1856, loading lever, KERR'S PATENT / APRIL 14th 1857. If grips are marked with Federal inspector cartouche, these went to Federal government, no Federal cartouche (this one) went to the states. Initials are carved into grip, with research this could possibly be traced. Cylinder is marked with serial number. Revolver is double action, 5 shot revolver, barrel is octagon, grips are walnut finished with fancy carving, it was a highly sophisticated revolver for the period. Octagon barrel length 6in.
