Six shot single action percussion revolver, Starr Army Model 1863, .44 cal. . Starr Army Model 1863, .44 cal. single action revolver was developed as a less costly improvement of their earlier double action revolver. It is a more conventional design and competed with Colt and Remington revolvers already dominating the market. Revolver manufactured by Starr Arms Co , New York, NY. Marks: Frame is marked on right side, STARR ARMS. CO. NEW. YORK., and left side, STARRS PATENT JAN 15, 1856. Serial number is marked on cylinder. Cartouche on wood indicates government inspection. The revolver is fitted with a single wood grip, a hold over from the 1858 design and a departure from other designs. Round barrel length 8in. Research Center: Weapon4352-Revolver-Starr .
